WordPress plugin: No Self Pings
Some people really like that WordPress sends pings from your own site to your own site when you write posts; it lets them easily leave a trail of related posts.
Some people do not like this behavior; it clutters up their comments.
So here’s a plugin to disable self pinging. I couldn’t find any prior art, but if you know of any other plugins that do this, please let me know.
Download the plugin, put it in your WordPress plugins directory, activate it via your WordPress admin panel, and you’re set. No configuration necessary.
Yeah, I still have to figure out how I broke the self pinging along the way on my own blog ;-)

I’m getting a blank page after I click “save” or “publish” in my blog after installing this plugin. Here’s what it’s showing me in the http error log:

Isn’t the pinging meant to send the search engine spiders to your site to index them again; so is it a good idea to disable it.
Mayur, I believe you are confusing Pingbacks (a way of automatically linking blog posts on different web sites) with Ping Services like Ping-O-Matic (services which tell search engines that your site is newly updated).
This plugin disables pingbacks that point from one of your own blog posts and point to another of your own blog posts. It doesn’t affect ping services at all.

I figured out a fix. The plugin’s not really broken, it works with WordPress 2.3
However, the new version of WordPress uses Google’s blogsearch, and not Technorati.
To fix this, just change your wp-admin back to using Technorati.
Open up /wp-admin/index-extra.php and look for:
http://blogsearch.google.com/blogsearch_feeds?hl=en&scoring=d&ie=utf-8&num=10&output=rss&partner=wordpress&q=link:
Change it to:
http://feeds.technorati.com/cosmos/rss/?url=
Then (next line), look for:
http://blogsearch.google.com/blogsearch?hl=en&scoring=d&partner=wordpress&q=link:
Change it to:
http://www.technorati.com/search/
Voila. Be sure to back up your original index-extra.php, just in case!
Now you’re back to using (the better) Technorati, and your self pings won’t show up.
I’ve looked at why this plugin is ont working for some people in 2.3, and I’ve been unable to figure it out. It works for me fine.
Also, what you suggest above Mike, is very curious. Self pinging and incoming links are completely unrelated.
I’ll keep looking into it.
